UNFURLING

This daisy fleabane grows in our front yard each Spring. It's not so remarkable, except when caught unfurling its dozens of petals. Visit our host, Dragonstar, at http://blackandwhiteweekend.blogspot.com/ to see more fine photos unfurl! David/

A GOOSE IN THE COOTS

Have you ever heard the expression a horse of a different color? I like this fun photo...perhaps a fowl of a different color? She came to see what was happening in the "black duck section" of the lake while we were there. The black ducks are called American coots hence the catchy title. To see this week's fine photos, visit our host Dragonstar at http://blackandwhiteweekend.blogspot.com/

NATURAL SCIENCE

This is a collection of natural objects in a basket in my classroom. I really enjoyed capturing the different textures. Pictured are seashells, three types of acorns including our largest, the bur oak, and in the middle a scale off of a cardboard cycad I grow in my garden.
Visit Dragonstar for more textures and great photos at http://blackandwhiteweekend.blogspot.com/ .

THISTLE BUD

Found this along the highway near Victoria, Texas. I'm glad I've never tripped and fallen on one of these.
Thistles are quite common in some parts of Texas. I wonder if the thistles of England are a different species.
